This project involved the renovation of the existing Kennedy Elementary School building and the construction of a 20,000-square-foot wood-framed addition—all completed while students and staff remained on-site for daily classes.
The new addition introduced seven modern classrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a new cafeteria, updated restroom facilities, and a covered basketball court. Site improvements included the addition of a new parking lot and the refurbishment of the existing one, enhancing overall accessibility and flow.
Renovation efforts focused on essential facility upgrades, including seismic reinforcements throughout the building, roof replacement, music room improvements, enhanced security control systems, and the installation of a new administrative office suite. A new electrical service was also coordinated to support both the existing structure and the new addition. This power feed was brought online and back-fed to the original building during off-hours, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
A significant challenge of this project was maintaining normal school operations throughout construction. A detailed site-specific safety plan was developed and implemented to protect students, faculty, and visitors. Temporary egress pathways and interior corridors were constructed to safely reroute foot traffic through active construction zones. Key renovation and exterior improvements were scheduled over the summer break, while the remainder of the work was phased strategically during the academic year.
Thanks to proactive scheduling, clearly defined work zones, and close coordination with school administrators, disruptions were minimized. Despite the complexities of working in an active school environment, the project was completed on time and within budget—demonstrating the team’s unwavering commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality craftsmanship.
